The Inversion Method
charlie munger lived on this thinking principle...
2 am. last night. staring at the ceiling.
patterns being made in the darkness. i’m entertained.
can’t sleep. can’t procrastinate.
brain feels like the neurons are burning. eyes feel like there’s salt water inside.
but my mind’s racing.
“how can i stay broke?”
don’t do any work. play video games. go clubbing every week.
now i do this every night. invert everything.
it’s my lullaby.
and i do the opposite.
people ask: “how do i get rich?” then can’t sleep.
too many answers. too many factors. hundreds of paths. mind won’t shut up.
paralysed.
burnt out before starting.
i ask “how do i fail?” and wake up with clarity. i know what i have to do. the opposite of what i said last night.
inversion.
easier to see what keeps you broke than what makes you rich. easier to spot what keeps you weak than what makes you strong.
you ask “how do i get rich?” for weeks.
overthinking traps you so you don’t move. makes you think that the thinking is productive.
but when you invert to “how do i stay broke?” the negativity bias kicks in.
your brain is wired to spot threats. evolved that way. easier to see what kills you than what saves you.
evolution didn’t care about success. it cared about survival.
so your brain sees failure paths immediately.
“how do i stay broke?”
answers flood in. don’t work. waste money. no skills. scroll all day.
finite list. manageable.
“how do i get rich?”
infinite possibilities. your brain short-circuits.
can’t process infinite so it shuts down.
that’s the paralysis.
you think you’re looking for the path. really you’re drowning in options.
inversion flips it.
it shows you the holes to avoid instead of a bridge to build. and once you see the holes, the path appears.
try it right now.
ask: “how can i stay stuck exactly where i am?” answers come immediately, don’t they?now do the opposite of each one.
that’s your path. simple.
“how do i get rich?”
paralysis.
flip it: “how do i stay broke?”
don’t work. spend everything. no skills. no value.
do opposite: work daily. save. build skills. create value.
path clear.
“how do i get shredded?”
overwhelming. macros, timing, splits, cardio, supplements.
flip it: “how do i stay fat?”
eat shit. don’t move. no sleep.
do opposite: clean food. daily movement. 8 hours sleep.
simple.
“how do i find a good girl?”
endless variables. where? when? how? what to say?
flip it: “how do i stay alone?”
never approach. stay home. watch porn.
do opposite: approach daily. go out. delete apps.
obvious.
every question works this way. invert it. answers come. do opposite.
but most people won’t.
they’ll read this and still ask “so, uh, how do i get rich?”
use the question as cope. the overthinking is an excuse. the paralysis has become comfort.
they’re trapped in a psychological cage they built themselves.
asking the same question for years. feeling productive because they’re “thinking about it.”
nothing changes. you either invert the question or stay stuck asking the wrong one.
your maths teacher? your colleague at work? they ask what to do.
operators ask what to avoid.
one gets overwhelmed. brain becomes a war ground.
the other gets clarity. mind becomes a cheat code.
2 am tomorrow night.
they’ll be paralysed thinking about success.
you’ll be planning what failures to avoid.
it’s less about being the smartest in the room.
but more about avoiding being the dumbest.
get peace through power.
